24. What Is The Difference Between Flexi Tanks And ISO Tank Containers?

An ISO tank container is a stainless steel tank with multiple layers of protection that can carry both hazardous and non-hazardous bulk liquids by sea, rail, or road.

While a flexitank is a hermetic sealed, collapsible and flexible bag/bladder that, when loaded, fits inside a standard 20-foot intermodal shipping container.

Bulk liquid ISO tanks have a cylindrical shape and can also be lined to reduce wear and corrosion from the contents, but they do not have the large disposable bladder lining found in flexitanks.

Tank containers can be designed specifically for food transportation in addition to transporting bulk liquid gas and diesel.

Whereas flexitanks are commonly used to transport food-grade liquids, but they can also transport non-edible liquids.

Tank containers come in several models, but they all can withhold between 5,500 and 11,600 gallons (approximately 20,800 to 42,900 litres) with respect to weight restrictions.

Flexitanks are available in a wide range of sizes, with regular capacities varying from 16 to 24 thousand litres.

25. What Is The Free Storage Time For Tank Containers?

The free days for tank containers are usually about 3-5 days after the container has been discharged from the transportation vessel.

The cost of storing the container until it is picked up and gated from the terminal is deducted.

Before the cargo can be picked up from the port, demurrage is needed to be paid off.

Detention applies to time spent outside of the port, and it will be levied if the consignee keeps the carrier’s container longer than the permitted free days.

In other words, when a container is picked up but not returned to the carrier, a detention fee is imposed.

Pressure Loading

The substance is pumped into the tank through the manhole or the top and bottom valves in this process.

Vapours are vented back into the storage container by the airline if the substance needs a closed-loop system.

Some hazardous goods must be transported in tanks with no openings below the liquid’s surface level, with the substance being discharged through a syphon pipe, using either pressure or pumping.

28. What Are The General Safety Points Of A Tank Container?

Since there is always a pressure difference between a closed tank and the atmosphere so all the valves should be opened with caution and all the pressure within the tank must be released before opening the manhole.

Always open and close the foot valve first when using the bottom outlet.

Before loading or unloading, make sure that all valves that are not in use are shut off, and if loading through the manhole, secure the hose as close to the manhole as possible to avoid hose whiplash and contact with the tank surface.

Before making some other connections, always earth the container to a nearby earthing spot.

Make sure that the tank has been washed thoroughly before entering it because if a hazardous chemical is left inside the tank it can prove to be very harmful.
